Who can work in Australia?
Australia has strict
guidelines that determine eligibility. It is hard to generalise
across all specialties, seniorities and for individual states
(each has its own medical board) but the following are some
guidelines to assessing your eligibility.
If you HAVE a
primary degree from one of the following countries then you are
likely to to be eligible without difficulty:
-
New Zealand
-
British Isles
(UK, Ireland)
-
North America
(USA, Canada)
-
Western Europe
(France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Austria,
Switzerland)
-
Scandinavia
(Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland)
-
South Africa
-
South-East Asia
(Hong Kong, Singapore)
If you DO NOT have a
primary degree from one of these countries, you may be eligible if
you HAVE undertaken paid work for 6 months or more in one
of the health systems above. Medical Boards will also want to be
sure that you have an acceptable standard of English so it is
important to meet the English language requirements (see English
Language Testing Requirements page).
If you DO NOT have a
primary degree from one of these countries and you have NOT
worked, or have only undertaken a clinical attachment then you are
unlikely to find work in Australia.
