Paediatrics in
Australia and New Zealand
Paediatrics opportunities in
Australia and New Zealand exist at all levels including consultant
specialist, registrar and resident (SHO).
The practice of Paediatrics in
Australia and New Zealand is very similar to that in any other
westernised country such as the UK or Ireland.
Although Paediatric
subspecialisation exists for most of the larger hospitals, some
hospitals still employ general paediatricians.
Due to the sheer size and low
population of Australia, most states have a single Children's
Hospital which see most of the paediatric admissions but there are
still some general hospitals which see both Adults and Children.
In New Zealand, almost all of the
hospitals are general adult and paediatric hospitals and each would
have a regional referral centre for complex cases or for the
regional PICU.
